ACC Action Applauds Conservation Priorities in the Senate Farm Bill
WASHINGTON, DC – The American Conservation Coalition Action (ACC Action) applauds the inclusion and expansion of key conservation programs in the Senate’s Farm Bill discussion draft.
ACC Action Managing Director Andrew Mills said, “We are encouraged by the Senate’s work to advance the Farm Bill in 2026 while maintaining key conservation programs and increasing farmers’ access to resources. We are grateful to Chairman Boozman and his team for prioritizing this crucial legislation for our nation’s farmers – our greatest conservationists.”
The Senate discussion draft incorporates streamlining of conservation practice standards enabling USDA to support innovation and expand eligible practices for farmers to conserve their land, CRP flexibility for grazing and drought management, and increased access to third-party technical assistance providers.
The text also supports EQIP and CSP funding, though a substantial amount of funding is reallocated to support new programs also included in House Farm Bill text: the Forest Conservation Easement Program protecting private forestland from development, and the State Conservation Assistance Program providing federal grants for state and tribal soil health programs. Both of these programs are welcome additions to the Conservation Title.
ACC Action further applauds the Senate’s decision to not include controversial pesticide labelling liability shields in the Farm Bill text.
While this draft is promising, ACC Action encourages the committee to directly address staffing needs within the NRCS and FSA, and maintain support for soil testing as a valuable tool to support decision making for regenerative practices and input-reduced agriculture while still avoiding new barriers to access conservation funding.
ACC Action applauded House passage of the Farm Bill in April and looks forward to working with Senate leaders to empower our original conservationists.
