ACC Commends Chairwoman Murkowski for Senate
Energy Committee Hearing Regarding Climate Change
The American Conservation Coalition (ACC) commends Chairwoman Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) for yesterday’s Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing regarding climate change. The Senators on the committee heard from five witnesses regarding the energy sector in a changing climate. One witness, the Business Council for Sustainable Energy President Lisa Jacobson said, “Critical to any climate change policy is that it be market-based and inclusive of the broad range of readily-available clean energy technologies that can reduce emissions – affordably and reliably.”
ACC Legislative Director Quill Robinson said: “Chairman Murkowski’s long history as a fierce advocate for the environment along with her understanding of the intricacies of the energy sector makes her a natural leader on climate change. Her voice is greatly needed in a discussion which is increasingly dominated by emotion and not facts.”
While the Committee does not have primary jurisdiction over climate issues, it can provide for research and energy innovation, which is critical to countering climate change. It is imperative for Alaska and the country at large that the Senate continues to encourage the development of clean energy and cost reduction. ACC looks forward to working with Senator Murkowski and the entire Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to find market-based solutions to energy problems throughout the country.
