The Senate Passes the Great American Outdoors Act
WASHINGTON — The American Conservation Coalition (ACC) applauds the bipartisan Senate majority who voted to pass the Great American Outdoors Act. Introduced by Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), this legislation will address the National Parks Service deferred maintenance backlog and fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
This morning, the Senate voted 73-25 to pass the bill after several procedural votes throughout the past week.
ACC President Benji Backer said: “Our National Parks and public lands are part of our heritage as Americans. By protecting and investing in them, we will ensure that generations to come will benefit from America’s best idea. The American Conservation Coalition is proud to support the Great American Outdoors Act because it will protect this heritage and support the hundreds of thousands of Americans whose livelihoods are connected to our National Parks and public lands. Our members on over 200 college campuses across the country urge Congress to pass this historic piece of legislation.”
American Conservation Coalition members sent over 800 emails to their Senators and Representatives urging them to support the Great American Outdoors Act and the Restore Our Parks Act. ACC’s Government Affairs team worked closely with The Nature Conservancy, the National Wildlife Federation, and Pew to create bipartisan support for the bill.
ACC looks forward to seeing this legislation pass the House of the Representatives and arrive on the President’s desk.
